Coimbra is the district capital, the largest city in the Central Portugal region with around 150,000 inhabitants.

The city is close to the mountains and the sea. It is 40 minutes away from Serra da Lousã - which belongs to the European network of protected sites, famous for its schist villages - and 2h30 from Serra da Estrela - the highest in mainland Portugal, well known for snow sports and local cuisine. . As for the proximity to the sea, it takes 50 minutes to reach the beautiful beaches and ports of Figueira da Foz and Aveiro.










The good road and rail transport network allow us to reach Lisbon airport in two hours and Porto airport in one hour, from where flights depart daily at economical prices to the various European capitals. Traveling by car in three hours we arrived in Salamanca and in two hours in Vigo, Spain. Coimbra also runs international trains with connections to Madrid and Paris.

Coimbra is also a very wooded city. It has two forest reserves such as Mata do Choupal and the Botanical Garden and many parks, gardens, and squares throughout the city.
Classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the city and university are the daily stages for ideas, the arts, books, films, exhibitions and conferences, and the most varied shows.
Coimbra is a very youth-oriented city with more than 30,000 students.
In Coimbra, there are two large shopping centers, with supermarkets, large stores with national and international brands known worldwide, services, and cinemas: Alma Shopping (formerly known as Dolce Vita) and Forum Coimbra.
Coimbra is a safe university city with an excellent public health care network.

There are several public health units in the city, namely health centers, clinics and the hospitals of the Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra (CHUC) - the largest hospital in Portugal.
