Lorvão is a Portuguese village in the municipality of Penacova, parish seat with an area of 25.77 km² and 3 898 inhabitants. Its population density is 151.3 inhabitants / km².
Monastery
The Monastery of Santa Maria de Lorvão or simply Mosteiro do Lorvão is located in the parish of Lorvão, municipality of Penacova, district of Coimbra, in Portugal. It was an important monastery and center for the production of illuminated manuscripts in the 12th century, later serving as a female monastery. After the extinction of Religious Orders in Portugal in the 19th century, it saw a new use in the 20th century as a psychiatric hospital, the Hospital Psiquiatrico do Lorvão, closed in 2012.
