Penela is a Portuguese village in the district of Coimbra, in the province of Beira Litoral, in the Centro region (Beiras Region) and in the Region of Coimbra sub-region, with about 3 300 inhabitants. It is located about 20 km south of the district capital.
It is the seat of a municipality with 132.49 km² of the area and 5 983 inhabitants (2011), subdivided into 4 parishes. The municipality is limited to the north by the municipality of Miranda do Corvo, to the east by Figueiró dos Vinhos, to the southwest by Ansião, to the west by Soure, and to the northwest by Condeixa-a-Nova.
